The following day, Marc got out of the car in front of a tall building in Downtown Los Angeles.
“Good morning sir,” the door man opened the door for him, Marc nodded a response and made his way to the receptionist.
“Good morning, ma’am. I have an appointment with Mr. Liu at 9.”
“Yes, sir. Here is your visitor badge; it’ll be the last elevator on the left,” she pointed at the far elevator as Marc clipped the badge to his jacket.
“Yes, thank you, Rosemary,” he smiled before he left. Coming to the elevator, his smile dropped – game face on. Pressing the only button, the elevator doors opened immediately. He stepped on and a man stepped out of the shadows. Marc nodded at him before facing the other set of elevator doors. It was a quiet ride up to the top floor with the other gentleman.
“Sir, I’m going to have to check you for weapons and your briefcase before you are allowed to see Mr. Liu,” The gentleman stated when the doors opened up and both men stepped out.
“That’s quite alright, Gavin. Marc isn’t here to harm me,” An older man instructed from his desk. “Have a seat, Marc. I need to finish up some paperwork before we can talk.”
“Of course, Uncle Liu,” Marc took a seat at the couches in front of Uncle Liu’s desk. He placed his briefcase on the ground next to him and patiently waited.
“Now,” what sounded like a heavy binder closing and some movement was heard behind him. “Is it ever too early to have a drink?”
“Of course not, Uncle.”
“How about some scotch?” A glass was placed in front of him and Uncle Liu took the seat to his right. “So what did you want to talk about, Marc?” With that being a signal, Marc grabbed the briefcase that was next to him, moved his drink, and opened it on the table in front of him.
“I was recently contacted by your nephew, Joseph Chan, for a hit on a family you know very well, the Yotomo family.” A nod from the gentleman told Marc he had his attention. “He is offering me two and a half billion dollars to get rid of the whole family. After doing some digging on the family and your nephew, it has come to my attention that he’s doing this for personal gain and possibly starting an all out gang war. I have information here that shows that he is starting to work independently from you and has ordered four attempts on Mr. Tony Yotomo.”
“What makes you suspect my nephew?”
“Here are some papers indicating that he raised taxes in his district by 15 percent as well as–” Marc handed him a folder that outlined everything in better detail then
“15 percent?!”
“Yes, sir. By your reaction, that raise was not authorized through you. My associate was also able to trace all four hits back to your nephew,” Marc leaned back. “Now, Uncle Liu, you know my policy regarding hits and while I don’t want you to this as a threat towards you or your family, I will take this contract and turn the hit on your nephew instead of the family. It doesn’t make sense to hit a neutral party in all these unless you stand to make a personal gain.”
“Yes, I understand that. Will you be taking the 2.5 billon rewards as well?”
“I assume that he will give me half up front but money is not the issue right now. The issue is the code.”
“Take the contract, I will pay you the remaining balance from the 2.5 billion. All I ask, is that you tell his father what is going on. It isn’t right that he has to sit inside while his son gets killed for his own stupidity. I knew I never should’ve allowed him to have control of his own district.”
“Of course sir, shall I go pay him a visit today?”
“Yes. What is the timeline for your hit?”
“I want to say that it’ll be done in a week.”
“Fair enough. Now if you excuse me, I have a funeral to plan,” Uncle Liu stood up and reached out his hand. “Thank you for being truthful to me, Marc. I will make sure you get paid your troubles. Please let Ashely know what amount he pays you so I can pay you the rest.”
“Thank you, Uncle Liu,” Marc packed up this things and bowed before he retreated back to the elevator he came up. The same gentleman followed him back down.
Marc returned his badge with the receptionist heading to his car. Once getting in, he dialed Steven.
“YOU AREN’T DEAD!”ˆ
“No, Steven. I’m not dead. I just finished the meeting with Uncle Liu. Do me a favor and look up which prison Joseph’s dad is in?”
“Ummmm…. WHY?”
“I told Uncle Liu that my code won’t allow me to take the contract and go through with it, so he–”
“OH SHIT, YOU’RE GOING TO KILL JOSEPH! AHHHHAHAHAHAHA!!”
“Please, Steven. The prison.”
“Right, sorry. Heehee. Joseph’s father, Chang Wu Chan, is currently residing inside the Detention Center of Los Angeles*.”
“Okay, thanks. I’ll see you later.” With a click, he disconnected the call and made his way towards the federal prison.
A little bit of traffic later, Marc pulled into the parking lot off the premises. Shutting off his car, he made his way over to the waiting area where other people were already waiting for the bus to take them to the prison. Not even minutes later, a bus came back dropping people off and Marc got on.
Reaching the prison, Marc signed in. Declaring he had nothing and was there to visit Chang Wu Chan. He was escorted to a window and he waited for the prisoner to come.
An older Asian male sat down and waited for his cuffs to be taken off before he turned to face Marc. Marc picked up the phone that would connect them and the Asian male did the same.
“Good morning Mr. Chan. My name is Marc, an associate of your brother, Uncle Liu. I’ve come to inform you that your son has hired me. However upon my findings and discussion with your brother. I will not be fulfilling his contract.”
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Your son is the new contract. I’m here as a courtesy to you and to Uncle Liu.”
“What did my son do to deserve this faith?”
“The Yotomo Family did not deserve the death warrant he had placed on them nor should he had tried to gain momentum to over take his uncle.”
“I see, I never realized how stupid he could get. Thank you for informing me.” Chang Wu hung up the phone and turned around. Signaling to the guard he was done talking. After cuffs were put back on, he was escorted out of the room and Marc got up to leave.
A week later, Marc and Steven were on the couch watching the documentary when breaking news came on.
Coming live outside of Wang Hua Clinic on 25th and Main, we have news that Joseph Chan was found dead this morning when the receptionist of the clinic came in this morning. They are saying he was dead between the hours of two and four this morning–
Steven clicked off the television and turned to Marc, “You fucking did it.” He put up a hand and Marc met him for the high five.
